Golf
is an integral part of the coastal lifestyle and there are
three distinct golf clubs located within St. James.
In addition to beautifully maintained golf courses that have
all been designated as "Audubon Certified Cooperative
Sanctuaries" by Audubon International, each club offers
recreational and entertainment facilities that are available
to property owners who become members at each club.
The golf clubs
at St James - The Founders Club, The Members Club,
and The Players Club -provide a pleasant variety of golf experiences
that reflect the personalities of their designers. Residents
and property owners can take advantage of an extensive schedule
of fun-filled events and southeastern North Carolina's mild
climate to play golf all year 'round.
Not
only do golfers congregate at the community's clubhouses,
but so do social and civic groups. Residents participate in
a full range of group activities, from bird watching and bridge
to investing and painting.
Of course, the
clubs at St. James are popular dining venues too.
Whether it's for a round of drinks after golf or an evening
out with friends, the clubs offer a comfortable, welcoming
atmosphere and menus that change with the seasons.
The
Founders Club (formerly The Gauntlet Club) is
an award-winning 18-hole championship course that was designed
by P. B. Dye to enhance the natural beauty of the coastal Carolina
landscape.
Experienced
players will appreciate its challenging layout, which features
the highest slope rating of any course on the East Coast.
The Founders Club also offers a newly renovated clubhouse
and a state-of-the-art swimming and tennis complex.
The
Members Club, an 18-hole Hale Irwin Signature
Course, has won acclaim from golfers of every skill level.
This highly
playable course added another nine holes in spring 2001 and
is complemented by a 8,000 square foot clubhouse featuring
a restaurant, bar and grill, and fitness center.
The athletically
inclined will also appreciate the year-round swim club and
clay tennis courts. A fitness center expansion is planned
for 2003.
The
Players Club, by course designer Tim Cate, has
maintained the essential character of the land by using the
rolling terrain, hardwood and pine forests, naturally occurring
water and native vegetation to the maximum degree possible.
The magnificent Par 72 layout calls for a wide variety of shots
that will test every aspect of your game. The course is a challenging
and eye-pleasing design that blends ingenious use of berms and
bunkers with the beautiful and natural landscape of Coastal
Carolina. Hole #6 and 7 will leave you shaking your head! |
